'MYTHOMANIA' est un projet en cours de developpement crée à l'initiative de Moyra Derby et de Katherine McKee. Ce projet met en avant l'ambivalence générique de la peinture et son obligation à deux engagements contradictoires. Il examine comment la longue association entre la peinture et les idées de vérité, de véracité peut coexister avec des anticipations et des accusations d'illusion, de machination, de manipulation. Le terme "mytho mania" se réfère au mensonge pris à un niveau anormal et excessif, être convaincu dans sa fausse croyance. Les complexités et la logique forcée induites par cet état, sont proposées dans ce projet comme un mode d'approche de la peinture, averti des règles et procédures héritées de l'histoire de l'art, et de celles qui sont imposées par l'individu sur lui même.
'MYTHOMANIA' is an ongoing research project shared by Moyra Derby & Katherine McKee. It considers an ongoing ambivalence or double bind within painting practice, and considers how a long held association between painting and ideas of truth or veracity can coexist with accusations or expectations of illusion, fabrication and manipulation. The term 'mytho mania' refers to lying that is taken to an abnormal and extravagant degree; lying that is emphatic in its delusions. The intricacies and contrived logic that it implies are proposed in this project as a model for an approach to painting, one that is conspicuously aware of rules and procedures both historically inherited and self inflicted.
